Ecclesiastes 3: 4 “A time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance”
Life is short. We all have a date of birth and expiration date. We are here on borrowed time. My question to you is what are you doing with the time God has given you? Are you celebrating life and having a good time? Or are you using your time singing woe it’s me? Or why did this happen to me?
About a month ago, a close friend of mine’s grandmother passed away. It happened the day before my best friend’s (his wife) birthday. To still celebrate life, his brother called me to let me know that they were going to have a cookout at his grandmother’s house to celebrate her life and my best friend’s birthday. When I arrived, I hugged his mother and offered condolences during the unexpected death of her mother. She said to me: “Would you speak at my mother’s funeral? She always said to me that you were special”. I was shocked and honored at the same time. I replied: “Aw wow omg! If you need me to speak I will”. Immediately, I began to think that the only funeral I spoke at was my uncle’s earlier this year. What could I say about her mother to offer words of encouragement and life?? That night she shared with me that she affectionately called her mother “Good time Charlie” because she was full of life.
Later that night, God began to download memories that I could share if she still needed me to speak. I reminisced on how my close friend’s brother would always post their grandmother on social media. The videos he shared would be of her dancing, laughing, and him keeping her up to date with the latest lingo and slang. She was vibrant and lived up to the name that her daughter called her. Every time I saw her she was laughing, smiling, and having a good time. Then God led me to a picture I posted on my Instagram story 3 days prior. The picture I posted was of me dancing at my friend’s going away party and another friend’s last day of radiation treatment. The caption I wrote to describe my emotions at that moment read: “And this is why I love turning up, dancing, living life, life of the party B, Maid of Turn Up! Whatever it is that describes celebrating life! We are here for a short time, but while we are here on God’s green earth we are to have a good time and experience life! There’s so much to celebrate in life than there is not to! And my motto will forever be Live, Love, Laugh and give God all the glory!!!”. How ironic!
There is a season and time for everything under the sun. You have the decision today to choose to have a good time or not in life. When it’s the time to laugh and dance how are you going to celebrate and have a good time?
